How much do your cakes cost?

Our custom designed cakes, vary in price depending on flavor, size, complexity of design and display.  Our minimum order is $50. All of our cake come with two layers and a filling (cake-icing-cake). Our basic cakes are chocolate or vanilla (white or yellow)cake with vanilla buttercream. They include top and bottom borders as well as an inscription in any color of your choice. Things like stacking fees, sculpting fees, decoration charges and specialty up-charges are added after the basic price. Generally speaking though, they cost around $2.50-4/serving.


How do I go about choosing a design?

You may choose to have a consultation in person or virtually, via email & phone. Most of our  clients choose have virtual consultations or place their orders via email or phone. If you are wanting to place an order for a wedding cake, it may be easier to have an in-person consultation. During our design consultation we will discuss what kind of elements you would like on your cake. If the cake is for a wedding, we will also discuss the colors of your wedding, theme, number of guests, location of reception, etc.


If you have photos of cakes that you like, we can use them as inspiration to create your cake. Out of respect for other cake designers, we prefer not to duplicate their work and to provide you with a unique cake of your own.


When and where are you available to meet for consultations?

Kelly's Cakes is a home bakery business located at 4505 Truth Way Austin, Texas 78725.  Consultations can be scheduled Sunday through Thursday from 10am-5pm. Consultations need to be scheduled at least one week in advance.


Do you bake your cakes from scratch?

Most all of our cakes are made from scratch, and are baked a couple days prior to the event. Our basic cakes (chocolate & vanilla) are not made from scratch. All other specialty cakes & cookies are made from scratch.


What is fondant?

Fondant is a sugar dough that is rolled out like pie dough and draped over the buttercream iced cake creating a smooth finish. Fondant can be tinted any color and also helps to keep the cake moist.


Can I have a different flavor for each tier?

We offer one cake flavor and one cake icing per cake. There is an additional cost for flavor combinations. This price varies depending on the size and flavor of cake.


Do you provide cake samples and how much do they cost?

Yes. we provide cake tasting samplers for $30.00. The samplers include 3 flavors of cake and icing. The samplers need to ordered in advanced, like any other order. We do not have pre-made cakes or cookies for you to try.


What kind of cake flavors and icings do you offer?

Please see our menu for a list of cake flavors, icings, fillings and enhancements that we offer, or contact us if you don't see what you're looking for. We're always happy to try new things & you might be surprised what's in our recipe box:)


What are gumpaste flowers and how long do they take to make?

Gum paste is a type of sugar dough that is rolled much like fondant. Special cutters and tools are used to make different kinds flowers. Each flowers is shaped and formed by hand until the desired flower is completed and allowed to dry for several days. Depending on the size of the flowers and the amount needed, this process can take 1-2 weeks to complete.


Do you provide fresh flowers?

Absolutely. If your cake is for a wedding, we will be more than happy to work with your florist. We will add fresh flowers to the cake after the arrangements with your florist have been made.

We can also provide fresh flowers of your choice for any cake. The cost of fresh flowers and seasonal flowers vary.


Do you provide cake stands to display the cake?

Our standard cakes are displayed on disposable bases, but we can provide a cake stand for your cake. They are not standard nor are they inclusive in the cost of the cake. All floating tiered cakes and some solid tiered cakes will require stands. The fee for these stands are added after the base price of your cake. Fees vary with the stand's size and design.

Do you have any delivery or set-up fees?

Delivery fees are inclusive in the cost of the cake when delivered within 10 miles from 4505 Truth Way Austin, Texas 78725. Set-up fees are inclusive in the cost of the complete service package. Fees vary depending on the size of the cake and distance to be traveled outside of 10 miles. Additional fees will be accessed on the final bill.  Our delivery charges are as follows:

When should I book my cake with you?

For weddings we usually ask that you book at least 3-6 months prior to the event. For other occasions, we ask that you book 1-4 weeks prior to the party. If you have a cake emergency, We're always happy to do what we can to help. Contact us to check our availability.


Do you require a deposit for cake orders?

We require a deposit for first time clients. 50% of the total cost is due up front to secure your date/order, and remainder will be due one week prior to your event. For wedding cakes, we require a $250.00 deposit to secure your date. All deposits are applied to the final balance of your cake. All deposits are non-refundable after a certain amount of time. Please see our cancellation policy below for more details.


When is the final balance due and how do I pay you?

For weddings, the final balance is due 3 weeks prior to the event. For all other parties, the final balance is due at least 1 week prior to the event. Special arrangements can be made for businesses operating on a NET-10, 20 or 30 pay schedule, before the order is placed. We accept cash, checks and credit card payments. All of our credit & debit card payments are processed via PayPal & PayPal Here. Please note that you do not need a PayPal account to pay your bill. PayPal provides you with a link via email to pay with any credit/debit card of your choosing.


What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations for weddings must be made at least 1 month (30 days) prior to the event. A 30% cancellation fee of the total bill will be charged if the cancellation is made less than 1 month prior to the event.

Cancellations for all other parties must be made at least 1 week prior to the event. A 30% cancellation fee of the total bill will be charged if the cancellation is made less than 5 days prior to the event.
